Detailed Course Curriculum & What You Learn

Module 01

Dive Planning & Gas Supply Logistics

Calculate exact Surface Air Consumption (SAC) rates to ensure adequate gas supply for deep descents, bottom exploration, safety stops, and emergency reserve contingencies.

  • SAC / RMV gas consumption calculations
  • Turn pressure and minimum reserve gas planning
  • Decompression illness & symptom recognition
  • Emergency drop tank and pony bottle protocols
Module 02

Managing Nitrogen Narcosis & Depth Pressure

Understand the physiological effects of breathing dense gas at 4+ atmospheres of pressure. Practice mental dexterity tests and reaction-time drills at depth.

  • Color absorption and darkness adaptation at 130ft
  • Narcosis recognition and ascent remediation
  • Buoyancy control with heavy wetsuit compression
  • Precise depth gauge and dive computer cross-checks
Module 03

Controlled Descents & Extended Safety Stops

Master rapid yet controlled descents down fixed reference lines, mid-water hovering, and multi-level emergency decompression stop procedures.

  • Line-assisted and free-drop descents
  • Mid-water stationary depth holds
  • Deployment of Surface Marker Buoys (DSMB) from depth
  • 3-minute safety stop & emergency 8-minute stop protocols

Frequently Asked Questions

Why take Deep Diver if I already have Advanced Open Water?

Advanced Open Water certifies divers to 100 ft (30m). The Deep Diver course extends your legal training limit to 130 ft (40m) and provides rigorous training in emergency pony bottle management, gas calculations, and narcosis awareness required for historic deep shipwrecks.

Where do we complete the 130ft training dives in NC?

We conduct deep training in the deep quarry basins at Fantasy Lake Adventure Park in Wake Forest and during our specialized offshore wreck charters off Morehead City, NC.
